Race report: Cuyamaca College 6k
This morning I ran a 6k race in 31:24. The course was flat, about half paved and half dirt. I ran the first mile in about 8 minutes - it's amazing how fast 8 minute pace feels to me. I just tried to hang on after that - the effort felt the same, but the pace got slower. My "official" pace was 8:25/mile, but my Garmin GPS watch said the course was a bit long and my pace was 8:16/mile. I'll have to take my watch for a run on a track someday. My weight this morning was 171 lb.

Your solution to running faster times is fairly obvious:
Stop running with a scale.
